He probably also is the one who stabs Kennedy. He's O'Connell's characters best friend and even plays a pivotal role in convincing Neve to forgive O'Connell when she initially thinks he's the killer.  He's also the possible boyfriend of Neve's best friend who he personally murders during she and Neve's escape attempt with the cops.
