But I do think he pulled it off quite nicely. This way people who haven't read the books can enjoy the movies (even though they are quite different from the books), and people who HAVE read the books can enjoy it as well, and can also talk shit about all the things that are inaccurate or got left out. Tolkien was right: there is no way they can turn the books into movies without screwing it up. But I think we could have much, much worse than these movies, especially since the script was written by fans of the books. They tried to leave in as much as possible, but it's not realistic to expect every single storyline and detail to come back in the movies... Love the Magic: The Gathering part :P

That is the exact same feeling I had when I first heard the news that Peter Jackson would be adapting these books into 3 movies shot at the same time for millions of dollars. I just remember thinking "WTF!! The Bad Taste guy?!" I mean, granted, Heavenly Creatures showed his potential, but I was beyond shocked that these movies turned out as great as they did. People forget who Peter Jackson was before these movies. It actually is some kind of cinematic miracle. I love that opening at the New Line studios.
