Big Changes To The Site
So as you can probably see, I’ve made some pretty huge changes to the site. Without going into too many details, basically I decided that the old system I wrote (designed around minimizing database use) had not aged well, and I wanted to switch to something more robust (specifically Wordpress). I’ve had to write a bunch of code, change a few things about wordpress, write my own wordpress plugin for the screenplay format, and create approximately 40 scripts to migrate data over. It’s been a fucking pain in the ass.
What does this mean for the site?
- Better RSS feeds
- More frequent updates, since it’s less of a pain to update the site now
- Comments can be left on posts
- Bloggy crap like polls and other things that I’ll have easier access to
- Seriously considering giving some people accounts that will let them post abridged scripts
- I can call myself a blogger and use phrases like “Blogosphere” while sucking my own dick.
The biggest change, however, is this: This site will no longer exclusively be abridged scripts. I plan to make posts about movie news, rumors, (occasionally) celebrities, box office numbers, etc. Essentially, The Editing Room is now a generic Movie-News Blog, but with Abridged Scripts every so often. For those who could care less about my opinions, don’t worry, you’ll eventually be able to subscribe to an RSS feed for just Abridged Scripts, and I’ll be making formatting changes to the site so abridged scripts stand out better.
There are also some cons. There are a lot of things that I don’t have working with the new site yet (categories are broken, contributed scripts don’t show up correctly, the archives are no longer sortable, the movie ratings are gone, blah blah blah). I have been working on improving this version of the site, but my old host started crapping out so I was kind of forced to direct the domain to the new location.
Hopefully these changes will piss of a very small number of you. If you hate me now, feel free to drop me an e-mail telling me so.

Looks good; glad to hear we’ll be seeing more frequent updates. This site has been a bookmark of mine for years.
June 15th, 2007 at 8:58 amWhere’d the 300 script go?
June 15th, 2007 at 12:04 pmwhat happened to the 300 abridged script?
June 15th, 2007 at 12:47 pmGood luck with getting it all running smoothly! Ive been stopping by almost every day for the past 7 years or so (since whenever you came out with the star wars episode 1 abridged script) to see if there are new updates. Your work is some of the funniest stuff on the internet imho.
June 16th, 2007 at 3:16 amI like the new design, except for one small aesthetic thing. Next to each comment is a big number, and they stand out more than they should. Perhaps shrinking them would be a good idea?
June 16th, 2007 at 12:31 pmNice new look, but now your ratings of the films (x.x out of 5 stars) are missing… :-(
Looking forward to new scripts!
June 17th, 2007 at 8:11 amDo you have some way of preventing spamming in the comments? This is a big problem even for out-of-the-way blogs like this one.
Looking forward to the site being active again!
June 18th, 2007 at 12:45 pmLooks great. Sounds like many great things are ahead.
June 19th, 2007 at 6:21 pmYay for more updates! I can finally stop going to the movies again!
June 19th, 2007 at 6:55 pmAhoy. Just thought I’d stop by to point out that the new design looks quite pleasant, but doesn’t work so well in Safari. Extra content sounds awesome. Carry on!
June 20th, 2007 at 1:39 amActually I’m a bit glad the ratings are gone. It always bugged me that you wrote such a great critism of Star Wars Episode 3 but then rated it 5/5… even though it was awful. So I say just leave out the ratings! I’d rather believe you hate all movies in the universe than to see you appear positive about some in a highly hypocritical fashion. Anyway, glad to see you’re still keeping the site going - I’ve been checking it for a while now. Oh, and write a script for Pirates of the Caribbean 3!
June 20th, 2007 at 8:06 amNice re-vamp, am looking forward to more regular updates as I’ve been recommending this site to friends for about 5 years.
June 20th, 2007 at 8:26 amI for one won’t miss the film ratings, as hopefully it will let me forget how highly you rated the Star Wars prequels and hense I can stop thinking that you must be a complete bell-end.
Hey, the new design looks mostly good to me. One thing I’d love to see changed is that there’s a horizontal line inbetween the byline/commentlink and the actual article text, which IMO should be placed inbetween entries instead. With the line where it is, I tend to associate the comment links with the wrong article/script (it doesn’t help that I’m more used to seeing a “comment” link at the bottom of the article text instead of the top).
Anyway, I think it would make the article delineation more clear if that line were between articles instead of where it is now.
Oh, and don’t listen to That Other Stranger From A Few Comments Ago - I liked seeing your ratings. They helped put the review into a more personal context.
June 20th, 2007 at 2:46 pmI’m pretty neutral on the site changes, but wanted to pay compliments to your hilarious abridged scripts. Keep up the great work.
June 21st, 2007 at 3:02 pmLooks good, love the new comments system, hope you have the time to do a few more updates. It’d be good to get the ratings system back again also.
June 22nd, 2007 at 6:05 amI think you’re right in thinkin to give other ppl to post their abridged scripts. Of course you must read them first and give green light. But seriously d00d, you been slackin and many movies that were askin to be abridged, you missed. Not complaining, I know you’re busy, but I wanna read more scripts. Supply does not meets demand. :D Nice fency new look btw :)
June 24th, 2007 at 12:05 pmi really hope you do more scripts more frequently
June 24th, 2007 at 3:48 pmLooking good and I’ve loved the abridged scripts ever since I found the place, but please, add dates to the news posts.
June 25th, 2007 at 1:36 pmThis new blog format is an excellent idea. Now we can be in touch with you and tell you how cool we think your scripts are. Keep up the good work!
June 26th, 2007 at 7:44 amI guess celebrity gossip and box office numbers are better than no updates at all. Glad to see that there will eventually be some new content.
June 26th, 2007 at 11:50 pmYes, we love you!!!
June 27th, 2007 at 3:15 amI think this site is great, and I’ve been a constant visitor for some years. I even sent a fan mail a while back. But I’m a bit disappointed that you will be focusing on other things now, like movie news. That, coupled with the scarcity of scripts recently, pretty much tells me I’ll lose interest in this site soon. Anyway, it was fun reading you for this time, and I wish you luck.
June 27th, 2007 at 8:07 amgreat changes…but do you still accept scripts?
June 30th, 2007 at 10:31 amJust wanted to finally say that I have had this website booked for years, roughly since I came across the first abridged matrix script. Looking forward to the new changes!
July 3rd, 2007 at 2:14 pmHey, so…remember how, about a month ago now, you promised that because the site had been changed that the updates would be more frequent? Well, uh…it’s been a while, dude. And there haven’t been any updates. Even though there’s been at least three big movies out since then (Spidey 3, Pirates 3 and Fan Four 2). Those are the kind of movies you used to abridge, back in the day. So I’m just wondering…have you lost interest in the whole thing? Because I miss the scripts. They were fun.
July 3rd, 2007 at 6:22 pmHmm, yeah, maybe he just lost interest, and he keeps redesigning the site to hide it.
July 4th, 2007 at 10:54 amHey,
July 6th, 2007 at 4:35 amYou need to seperate the scripts written by you from the others again (which are generally not as good).
Oh, god. The Bangkok dangerous ad at the top isn’t a joke. I made a pact with my cousins upon pain of death to never mention The Wicker Man (which is so mind numbingly terrifying that I am not sure if it can be safely abridged) to each other, and I am now absolutely shocked that he might “top” himself.
I would strongly set this up as a candidate for abridging before it is put out, simply because I have no idea how Nicolas Cage could possibly think that he can perform in this role.
