Big Changes To The Site
So as you can probably see, I’ve made some pretty huge changes to the site. Without going into too many details, basically I decided that the old system I wrote (designed around minimizing database use) had not aged well, and I wanted to switch to something more robust (specifically Wordpress). I’ve had to write a bunch of code, change a few things about wordpress, write my own wordpress plugin for the screenplay format, and create approximately 40 scripts to migrate data over. It’s been a fucking pain in the ass.
What does this mean for the site?
- Better RSS feeds
- More frequent updates, since it’s less of a pain to update the site now
- Comments can be left on posts
- Bloggy crap like polls and other things that I’ll have easier access to
- Seriously considering giving some people accounts that will let them post abridged scripts
- I can call myself a blogger and use phrases like “Blogosphere” while sucking my own dick.
The biggest change, however, is this: This site will no longer exclusively be abridged scripts. I plan to make posts about movie news, rumors, (occasionally) celebrities, box office numbers, etc. Essentially, The Editing Room is now a generic Movie-News Blog, but with Abridged Scripts every so often. For those who could care less about my opinions, don’t worry, you’ll eventually be able to subscribe to an RSS feed for just Abridged Scripts, and I’ll be making formatting changes to the site so abridged scripts stand out better.
There are also some cons. There are a lot of things that I don’t have working with the new site yet (categories are broken, contributed scripts don’t show up correctly, the archives are no longer sortable, the movie ratings are gone, blah blah blah). I have been working on improving this version of the site, but my old host started crapping out so I was kind of forced to direct the domain to the new location.
Hopefully these changes will piss of a very small number of you. If you hate me now, feel free to drop me an e-mail telling me so.

Looking good and I’ve loved the abridged scripts ever since I found the place, but please, add dates to the news posts.
June 25th, 2007 at 1:36 pmThis new blog format is an excellent idea. Now we can be in touch with you and tell you how cool we think your scripts are. Keep up the good work!
June 26th, 2007 at 7:44 amI guess celebrity gossip and box office numbers are better than no updates at all. Glad to see that there will eventually be some new content.
June 26th, 2007 at 11:50 pmYes, we love you!!!
June 27th, 2007 at 3:15 amI think this site is great, and I’ve been a constant visitor for some years. I even sent a fan mail a while back. But I’m a bit disappointed that you will be focusing on other things now, like movie news. That, coupled with the scarcity of scripts recently, pretty much tells me I’ll lose interest in this site soon. Anyway, it was fun reading you for this time, and I wish you luck.
June 27th, 2007 at 8:07 amgreat changes…but do you still accept scripts?
June 30th, 2007 at 10:31 amJust wanted to finally say that I have had this website booked for years, roughly since I came across the first abridged matrix script. Looking forward to the new changes!
July 3rd, 2007 at 2:14 pmHey, so…remember how, about a month ago now, you promised that because the site had been changed that the updates would be more frequent? Well, uh…it’s been a while, dude. And there haven’t been any updates. Even though there’s been at least three big movies out since then (Spidey 3, Pirates 3 and Fan Four 2). Those are the kind of movies you used to abridge, back in the day. So I’m just wondering…have you lost interest in the whole thing? Because I miss the scripts. They were fun.
July 3rd, 2007 at 6:22 pmHmm, yeah, maybe he just lost interest, and he keeps redesigning the site to hide it.
July 4th, 2007 at 10:54 amHey,
July 6th, 2007 at 4:35 amYou need to seperate the scripts written by you from the others again (which are generally not as good).
