He also managed to ramp up the production costs and delay its release my months. Michael Crichton pretty much fucked himself over on this one and is responsible for it as much as anyone else. Still, this is my favorite movie. It's not the best movie ever made (obviously), but it's my favorite despite its flaws. And this script was great too.
